Another Reggae Girlz player will be plying her trade at one of the biggest clubs in women’s football as central defender, Allyson Swaby, inks a deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG announced the signing of Swaby on Jan. 30, on the eve of Deadline Day during the January transfer window. The Jamaican international joins on a six-month loan deal from NWSL club, Angel City FC. PSG are currently second in the Ligue 1 Feminines table, a point behind record champions and defending UEFA Women’s Champions League winner, Olympique Lyonnais. They are also in the quarterfinals of this season’s UWCL.
It’s the second major European move for Allyson Swaby, who joined Italian Serie A side, AS Roma, midway through the 2018/19 season ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France, where she and the Girlz made their World cup debut. She remained with Roma until January 2022, winning the Coppa Italia during her penultimate season at the club.
Swaby made just two NWSL appearances for Angel City FC this season before her transfer. She hopes the move will lead to more game time and valuable experience ahead of the Reggae Girlz’s appearance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
