Following years of calls for Beenie Man and Bounty Killer to get national awards for their decorated careers, the dancehall legends are finally set for one of Jamaica’s top honors, the Order of Distinction.
Beenie and Bounty, real names Moses Davis and Rodney Price, will receive the OD this fall. The duo is among several musicians in line for the Order of Distinction, given to citizens who’ve rendered outstanding/important services to Jamaica. Also collecting the Order of Distinction are fellow icons, Glendon Bailey aka Admiral Bailey, and Nadine Sutherland. The recipients will collect their honors at the annual National Awards on Heroes Day (Oct. 21).

On Independence Day (Aug. 6), Prime Minister Andrew Holness honored Beenie and Bounty with citations recognizing their vast contributions to Jamaican music. “It is my great pleasure to honor Rodney Price, known as Bounty Killer, and Moses Davis, known as Beenie Man. In the spirit of our creativity, these two gentlemen have not only created a unique music genre but have also significantly contributed to Jamaica’s global recognition,” Holness said. Meanwhile, Price said after receiving his citation, “My brother Moses and I have gone from rivals to iconic idols.”
Beenie Man and Bounty Killer are two of Jamaica’s greatest musical exports, enjoying successful careers spanning over three decades. The former rivals are Grammy winners and considered Mount Rushmore artistes within dancehall.
