Manchester City and Reggae Girlz star striker, Khadija Shaw, will miss the rest of the 2023/24 FA Women’s Super League season with an untimely foot injury.
Shaw suffered a broken foot after scoring two goals in a 5-0 win for City against West Ham to boost her club’s push for a first league title since 2016. The injury means she will miss the run-in for City, which includes games against Arsenal at home and Aston Villa away.
Shaw outdid her brilliant 2022/23 campaign, scoring 21 league goals in 18 games, 8 more than any other FA WSL player, and one more than she netted last season. Despite the injury, Shaw seems a lock to win her first Golden Boot in the English top flight and her second after winning one in the 2020/21 season with Bordeaux in Ligue 1 Feminine.
City stands six points clear of four-time defending champions Chelsea, though Chelsea has two games in hand and are seven goals behind on the goal difference tiebreaker. Should City hang on, it would be Shaw’s second major trophy with the club, previously lifting the Conti Cup in the 2021/22 season.
Khadija Shaw is City’s all-time leading scorer with 72 goals in 83 appearances, making her one of Jamaica’s greatest-ever footballing exports. She signed a contract extension last offseason, keeping her in Manchester until 2026.
