The honours keep coming for Manchester City and Reggae Girlz star striker, Khadija Shaw, who is the 2023/24 Football Writers Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year.
The FWA Award is the biggest individual accolade of Shaw’s career. The Spanish Town native took it home amid a season in which she netted an FA WSL-leading 21 goals in 18 appearances. Shaw expressed joy about the award in a statement. “I am very proud and privileged to have received this award and to be recognised in this way is a special honour,” she said. “I want to also thank all of my teammates. They provide me with the chances to score goals and I could not have won this award without them. Hopefully the side can now finish off the season in style and give everyone special cause to celebrate.”

Shaw’s goals propelled City to the top of the FA WSL, six points ahead of four-time defending champions Chelsea. If City defeat Arsenal and Aston Villa in their final two matches, they will win the league for the first time since 2016.
The award comes a season after Shaw made the PFA Team of the Year for the first time. Shaw’s 21 goals this campaign also put her on course for the second Golden Boot of her career. She previously won one with Bordeaux in Ligue 1 Feminine.
Shaw is on the sidelines recovering from a broken foot she suffered in her last league outing against West Ham United, where she scored a brace.
