Khadija Shaw wins historic PFA Player of the Year Award

Khadija Shaw holds her 2023/24 PFA Women's Player of the Year award.

The Bunny keeps hopping on to new milestones as Khadija Shaw is the new Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year.

Shaw, the all-time international goalscoring leader for Jamaica, won the PFA Women’s POTY at the annual PFA awards ceremony on Aug. 20. The Manchester City striker is the second Jamaican ever to win the PFA’s most prestigious award after John Barnes won the honour with Liverpool in 1988. Shaw also made it a clean sweep for Man City as England international forward Phil Foden won the men’s equivalent.

Shaw took home the Player of the Year after her most prolific league campaign with City. The 27-year-old star bagged 21 league goals in 18 FA Women’s Super League games before her season ended prematurely due to a broken foot. Her season nearly ended up with the ultimate prize as City came agonizingly close to winning the league, finishing level on points with Chelsea at the top of the league table. However, they lost out to the London side on goal difference, giving Chelsea a fifth straight title triumph.

Since signing for Man City from Bordeaux in 2021, Khadija Shaw has scored 72 goals in 83 games across all competitions, winning the Golden Boot last season. Along with the PFA POTY, Shaw also won the FWA Footballer of the Year award and was nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or last year.
