The 2022 National Awards was a truly star-studded affair on Heroes Day at King’s House. Some of the most prominent Jamaican women in sports and entertainment were recognized for their outstanding contributions.
Legendary sprinter, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, was one of the recipients on the day. After a career year that saw her run a record six sub-10.7 second times and another world title, Fraser-Pryce received the Order of Jamaica (OJ) for her outstanding achievements.

Fraser-Pryce’s teammate and friend, Shericka Jackson, copped the Order of Distinction (OD) following her career year. In 2022, Jackson became a 200 m world champion and the fastest woman alive over that distance.
Additionally, revered Emmy Award-winning actress and comedienne, Sheryl-Lee Ralph, received the honorary Order of Jamaica award. Ralph, who has been in acting for 45 years, received the award for her vast contributions to film and her work as a cultural ambassador.

Meanwhile, dancehall/reggae artist, Agent Sasco, received the Order of Distinction for his various musical and philanthropic contributions. Jazz legend, Monty Alexander, received the Order of Jamaica as well. And, Jamaica’s culture minister, Olivia Babsy Grange, similarly received the OJ for her contributions to cultural development and politics.
