Buju Banton to perform concert in Trinidad after prison release

Incarcerated reggae/dancehall superstar, Buju Banton, is just over eight months away from securing his freedom following a lengthy prison term. But the iconic musician has already mapped out his immediate future after being released, landing one of his first concerts in the process.

The Grammy-winning entertainer, whose given name is Mark Myrie, will be performing in April 2019 in Trinidad & Tobago.  The news was confirmed by a member of the marketing team for Buju’s Everything BB brand, Jodian Lewis, during a media gathering held during the ongoing Love & Harmony Cruise aboard the Celebrity Summit vessel.

Trinidad & Tobago was chosen as an ideal fit due to scheduling conveniences and other variables. The news might come as a surprise to his legions of fans in Jamaica, who would have been hoping his return concert would be held at home. However, Ebanks assured that Buju will be performing in Jamaica at the earliest convenience. Clashing schedules with fellow artistes he wanted for the show in Jamaica were cited as the main reason his first performance in Jamaica will have to wait

Despite initial reports that the T&T concert would be his first after being released, another marketing specialist representing Buju clarified that this was not the case.

Buju is scheduled to be released from prison on December 8 of this year as he serves the final few months of a 10-year prison sentence for drug-related offences. In February, new music emerged from the revered musician, including the single, Send Back Adams, where he called for Reneto Adams to return as police commissioner in the wake of increasing violence in Jamaica
