Dorraine Samuels dies following cancer battle

It feels like a big part of our childhood and beyond has been ripped apart 💔😥 It is with sadness that we confirm that Dorraine Samuels, one of Jamaica’s 🇯🇲 greatest media figures, has died. She was only 59 years old.

Samuels, who underwent surgery earlier this month, was battling pancreatic cancer. She passes just over two months after announcing she was leaving TVJ’s Prime Time News. She was an anchor on the daily newscast since 2004.

The decorated journalist is also renowned for her long-standing morning show, Good Morning Jamaica, with Alan Magnus, with whom she partnered with on the local airwaves for over three decades. She also hosted Sunday Magazine, Jamaica Today and Dorraine’s Coffee Break and is considered one of Jamaica’s greatest cultural icons.

In addition to her media work, Samuels also was a finalist at the Miss Jamaica World pageant in 1980, working as an insurance clerk at the time before transitioning to broadcasting in 1981.

Walk good Aunty Dorraine!
