Elaine Thompson Herah wins prestigious Laureus Sports Award

The Fastest Woman Alive is used to being first and she set another first on Sunday.

Elaine Thompson Herah won the World Sportswoman of the Year award at the Laureus Sports Awards on Sunday.

The five-time Olympic gold medallist is the first Jamaican woman to win the honour

Thompson-Herah is coming off one of the greatest track and field seasons of all time in which she won three Olympic gold medals and set a new Olympic record in the women’s 100 m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games last summer.

She also ran the second-fastest time in history (10.54 secs) at the Wanda Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is the home of the 2022 IAAF World Championships, set to take place from July 15-24.
