Shamar Nicholson joins Ligue 1 club on loan from Spartak Moscow

Reggae Boyz striker leaves Spartak for more playing time

Reggae Boyz 🇯🇲 striker, Shamar Nicholson, is on the move as he’s been sent on loan to Ligue 1 side, Clermont Foot 🇫🇷, from Spartak Moscow 🇷🇺 for the rest of the 2023/24 season.
Nicholson joins Clermont, who are playing their third consecutive season in the French top flight after winning promotion in 2021. After a surprise 8th-placed finish last season, Clermont have yet to pick up a point in three games so far this season, hoping Nicholson can spark their attack.

The Jamaican international enjoyed initial success at Spartak, scoring 8 goals in 16 games for the club after moving in January 2022 from Belgian side, Charleroi. He fired Spartak to the Russian Cup in his first season, though the club could not participate in the UEFA Europa League last season due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, causing Russian clubs to be banned from European competition.
In 2022/23, Nicholson scored just 4 goals in 23 games, seeing his playing time diminish under Spanish manager Guille Abascal.
