Grammy-nominated dancehall star, Spice, says she’s recovering from surgery after suffering a damaged hernia and subsequent sepsis while in the Dominican Republic.
The artiste, whose real name is Grace Hamilton, posted an update on her Instagram page after over a week of speculation surrounding her health. According to the deejay/singer, she need immediate surgery after suffering a hernia, sending her body into shock. In the post, Spice also rubbished reports she was in a deep coma and suffered a heart attack while in surgery.

Reports about Spice’s health first came about on Nov. 1 when a celebrity blogger tweeted that she had complications following a cosmetic surgery she did in the Dominican Republic recently. Her reps later denied the reports, though the situation was serious enough that necessitated that a close family member of her’s fly down to be with her.
On Nov. 5, sources close to the dancehall star confirmed that she was awake and making progress following her ordeal.
A few weeks earlier, Spice announced to her followers that she was taking time off social media, citing needing a mental health break. However, a couple of Instagram stories appeared on her page on Nov. 7 promoting her music, seemingly indicating things were improving.
Spice has been promoting her second studio album, Emancipated, which was released this past August, via VP Records. Singles released from the album include Clap Clap and Same Mouth.
