Khadija Shaw, Merlene Ottey among national award recipients

Several leading ladies in sports were honoured on Heroes Day with national awards for their vast contributions.

Reggae Girlz and Bordeaux striker, Khadija Shaw, was honoured with the Order of Distinction (Officer) for her many accolades in football, including being Jamaica’s all-time international top scorer ⚽ (male or female). Also, the woman who’s funding revived the Girlz program, Cedella Marley, also got the OD honour (Commander).

One of our greatest sprinting products, Merlene Ottey, was conferred with the Order of Jamaica 🇯🇲 while Olympic gold medal-winning hurdler and Jamaica’s first female Olympic gold medallist, Deon Hemmings-McCatty, received the OD (Commander) for her efforts 👏
