Vybz Kartel gets engaged in prison

Vybz Kartel spends time with his fiancee, Sidem Ozturk, during an authorized prison visit earlier this year.

Despite being incarcerated on a life sentence for murder, dancehall legend, Vybz Kartel, has found love.

The revered entertainer, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is engaged to his girlfriend, Sidem Özturk. Palmer proposed to Özturk during an authorized prison visit this past summer. The two have been dating since 2015.

Özturk spoke openly about their relationship during an interview with Fox 5 New York which aired on Tuesday.

The London-based psychology student revealed that the two formed an instant connection during his stint at the Horizon Remand Centre, citing his personality as a major attraction point. She moved to Kingston to be closer to Kartel, sacrificing her career path to be with him.

This is the second time that Kartel has been engaged. He previously married a British woman, Stacy Elliott, in January 2006. The two divorced in 2008, with Kartel revealing in a Supreme Court hearing that his wife gave birth to a son outside of the marriage and that she never visited him in Jamaica after his U.S. visa was revoked.

Vybz Kartel was also in a long-term relationship with Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson, who is the mother of his children turned artistes, Likkle Addi and Likkle Vybz. However, the two never married. And, they broke up multiple times along the way.

Kartel has released his new EP, True Religion, which is entirely dedicated to his new fiancee.

In the meantime, the deejay awaits a ruling from the Privy Council regarding his appeal on his murder conviction for the 2011 slaying of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. That ruling could come as soon as this fall.
