Vybz Kartel will have his day in court again soon as the dancehall legend looks set for a retrial hearing to determine the future of his murder case.
Justice Marva McDonald Bishop ruled on Friday that the Court of Appeal will begin hearing arguments about a potential retrial in the Clive “Lizard” Williams murder case. Lawyers representing Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, and his co-accused, Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Andre St. John and Kahira Jones, must serve skeleton submissions by May 6.

The retrial hearing will last for five days, determining whether Palmer and his co-accused will once again stand trial for the 2011 murder of Williams. The Privy Council recently struck down the convictions of the four men following an appeal, leaving Jamaica’s court system to determine whether a second trial is necessary. A jury convicted Palmer and his co-accused in 2014 for Williams’ murder.
Palmer, Campbell, St. John and Jones remain imprisoned as they await the hearing.
