Iconic music producer, Bobby Digital, passes away

One of Jamaica’s most influential music producers is no longer with us.

Bobby Digital, known for mastering the computerized era of dancehall that we’re so accustomed to now, has died at age 59 after battling kidney problems. He had been doing weekly dialysis treatments and reportedly fell ill while making his latest hospital visit before dying shortly after.

Real name, Robert Dixon, Bobby Digital was renowned for being a fundamental producer for the likes of Shabba Ranks (Peenie Peenie, Wicked Inna Bed, Dem Bow) Sizzla (Black Woman and Child album), Buju Banton (Til I’m Laid to Rest) and Garnett Silk (It’s Growing) among many other music heavyweights. Buju paid tribute to the producer on Instagram after the news broke.

Additionally, his sound directly led to the emergence of reggaeton music, popularized in Puerto Rico and Latin America from the 90s onwards. R.I.P Bobby 🙏
