Reggae Boyz player tests positive for coronavirus

As the English Premier League looks to resume in June, news has come that a few players have tested positive for COVID-19.

One such player is Reggae Boyz and Watford defender, Adrian Mariappa, who revealed his positive test as his club returned to training this week.

He is now in quarantine after finding out the test result on Tuesday, but is asymptomatic and doing well.

The news stunned Mariappa, 33, as he expressed in an interview with English daily newspaper, The Telegraph, saying, ‘Ever since I got my positive result back on Tuesday, I’ve been scratching my head to try to work out how I might have got coronavirus.'”

“It was a big surprise because I haven’t really left the house, apart from some exercise and the odd walk with the kids,” he added. “I’ve mainly just been homeschooling and keeping fit.”

Mariappa has 49 caps for the Reggae Boyz, was a key part of the 2015 Gold Cup squad which made the final and has also played in two Copa America editions (2015 and 2016) for Jamaica.

The London-born defender is now in his 11th season, across two spells, with Watford, who sat just above the relegation zone in the Premier League on goal difference before play was halted due to the global pandemic.
