Acclaimed DJ collapsed during an event he was performing at

The music world mourns a sudden and shocking loss early Sunday after veteran disc jockey and producer, Arif Cooper, passed away.

Cooper worked an event at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre along Hope Rd. in St. Andrew on Saturday night. At the event, he collapsed after reportedly suffering a seizure. He was later taken to the hospital where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.

Known for his time working with FAME FM, Arif Cooper was the son of Third World’s Michael “Ibo” Cooper. He grew up around the sound system culture, gradually making his name at events in the 1990s. During that time, Cooper founded Syndicate Disco during that period and created his label, Fresh Ear Productions.

Cooper worked with a wide array of top industry names including Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Alaine, Tami Chynn, T.O.K and many more.

He shares a daughter with TVJ’s Simone Clarke who he was married to until 2019.
